Poetry at SCHS-- Pick Your Passion

Do you write your own poems or lyrics? Feel like sharing? We know there's hidden talent out there and we'd like to uncover it so we're having a poetry contest. We'll give you a new topic on which to write each quarter. For the 1st contest we'd like you to submit a poem that expresses your passion for a particular topic. What are you passionate about? What makes you angry? What needs to change? What can't you live without? You tell us.   Submissions are due Monday December 14th by midnight. Submit your poems to schslibrary@gmail.com. Make sure you include your name and ID#. The winner will receive a $25 gift certificate from Barnes Noble. The best submissions will be posted here on the library's website.

Below is an example of Tupac Shakur's passion

And 2Morrow

Today is filled with anger
fueled with hidden hate
scared of being outcast
afraid of common fate
Today is built on tragedies
which no one wants 2 face
nightmares 2 humanities
and morally disgraced
Tonight is filled with rage
violence in the air
children bred with ruthlessness
because no one at home cares
Tonight I lay my head down
but the pressure never stops
knawing at my sanity
content when I am dropped
But 2morrow I c change
a chance 2 build a new
Built on spirit intent of Heart
and ideals
based on truth
and tomorrow I wake with second wind
and strong because of pride
2 know I fought with all my heart 2 keep my
dream alive
